Tao Porchon-Lynch’s secrets to Aging Awesomely with "My Guru Wears Heels" author, Joanna Rajendran

"Whatever you put in your mind materializes. Within yourself there is an energy but if you don't use it, it dissipates. And that's when you get old." -Tao Porchon-Lynch

I love this quote from the extraordinary Tao Porchon-Lynch, a yoga master, dancer, activist, and author who was known as the world’s oldest yoga teacher and who lived happily to 101!

If we don’t use it, we lose it!

I spoke with Tao’s close friend, confidante, and student, Joanna Rajendren, author of My Guru Wears Heels, about the life lessons she learned from Tao and the secrets of a woman who lived with true beauty, grace, and radiant positivity until her final breath.

Wisdom, radiance, and inner peace come with getting older

It doesn’t matter if you’re 35 or 70! You have an inner radiance that needs to be harnessed each and every year. You still have so much more living to do!

Tao didn’t dwell on her age or let it limit her belief in what she could or couldn’t do.

She took up competitive ballroom dancing at 87 and wrote her first book at 94. She never stopped sharing her light and her talents with the world. Tao passed away, but she never grew old.

Tao didn’t believe in age. She believed in energy harnessed from her breath and a positive mindset.

Social media only links beauty to youth. And sets unattainable standards about beauty.

We’re drowning in products that promise to reverse the signs of aging—to smooth out wrinkles and plump up lips.

If only we could look 20 years younger, we’d be happier...right?

With so much emphasis placed on anti-aging these days, we’ve developed a fear of getting older.

We often look back nostalgically on our “youthful” days thinking that our best years are behind us.

The ladies who are happy & thriving in their older years don’t dwell on these thoughts. In fact, they celebrate their age.

So many things improve with age—cheese, wine, leather boots, blue jeans, and trees. Do you know what else improves with age? YOU!

Especially with the right health & mindset.

Beauty also comes with age!

Tao loved looking fabulous! She was known to wear large earrings, full makeup, and heels to her yoga workshops.

She didn’t let society—or her age!—dictate how she should look or feel. Tao truly mastered the art of being happy, healthy, and thriving by doing what suited her.

She felt beautiful on the inside and the outside. She did what made her feel beautiful. And she rocked it!
